The coastline of Crete is always full of surprises. From the sandy
beaches several kilometers long in Rethymno and Georgiopoli to palm
forests, river estuaries and dramatic steep cliffs, there is
something new around every corner.
Secluded small coves lay hidden and often unnoticed between the
rocky cliffs near Panormo and Bali.
To the south west there are the pink sands and rare plants of
Elafonnisi. Elsewhere the palm beaches of Vai and Preveli provide a
'Bounty Advert' beauty.
The south coast, looking out onto the Libyan sea tends to be
quieter and warmer than the north with too many beaches to count -
along the north coast to the east of Heraklion there are the busier
beach resorts for those who are seeking fun and night life.
Surfers and wind surfers should head to Falassarna in the west
where waves regularly pound the shoreline.
The coastline is varied with something to suit everyone.
